Welcome to Fall 2024!

You know, over the years, I have heard many people say, “I have served my time for the church, now let someone else step in.” At the same time, I have heard, “So and so has done this at the church for so long, I would not want to step on anyone’s toes or make them feel pushed out.” Someplace between these two points of thought is where we need to land. Did you know that people can change how they serve rather than concluding they are done?

As we are now in the full of Fall, our church calendar says it is Nominating and Stewardship Awareness time. One of the issues here is that no one wants to serve on the Stewardship and Nominating Committees. If we cannot come together to serve in the development of these areas, how in the heavens do, we believe the positions of the church will be filled? Or for that matter, for our financial campaigns to be successful?

Okay, some of you are new to the church and do not fully understand how the church manages policy, finances, and administration. Congregationally, of course! You who attend the Congregational Christian Church, those interested in membership, or just curious about how things are done, you are welcome and invited to the New Members Class at 10am, Saturday, October 26, 2024. We will do our best to cover all the necessary information for making a prayerful decision to join as a full participating member of the Congregational Church of Somerset, United Church of Christ (UCC). Oh yeah, we shall learn a bit about the UCC too! Have you noticed the most beautiful railings outside in the front of the church? How about the lovely new railing up the church Chancel? On Sunday, October 20, 2024, let us plan to dedicate all these new railings. Following let us all gather for a church picture that will be used publicly for promotion of the Congregational Christian Church.

Godly service, active participation, prayerful considerations, administrative structures, money management, maybe this is why we all consider the month of October the scariest?   AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

Peace, Pastor Cheryl Rieder
